Focus on iThemba in Hillcrest remains Wakefields’ chosen charity, and every year, as Christmas draws near, our entire team comes together to make sure the children experience the season exactly as it should be: joyful, bright and unforgettable.
This year was no different. On Thursday, 4 December, Wakefields team members across KwaZulu Natal rolled up their sleeves for our annual Santa Shoe Box Day. Nearly one hundred boxes were lovingly packed and wrapped, each one filled to the brim with treats and essentials, from toiletries and stationery to toys, sweets, soccer balls and those little surprises that make children’s faces light up.
Focus on iThemba has been Wakefields’ charity partner for over a decade. A school with its roots in the Upper Highway, a community we’ve served for many years. The relationship is personal, consistent and deeply meaningful. Wakefields funds school fees for selected learners, and every team member has the opportunity to contribute a portion of their commission or personal funds toward supporting the children throughout the year.
But Christmas is when the magic truly comes alive. Every person at Wakefields plays a part. From buying and packing to wrapping and delivering. And in the end, nothing compares to the joy, the singing and unfiltered excitement when each child opens their box.
It’s a tradition that reminds us why we do what we do, and why giving will always matter.
