Less than one thousand three hundred families have the honour of calling Yellowwood Park their home. Situated a mere 14 kilometres from the heart of Durban this suburb is noted for its abundance of large Yellowwood trees (Podocarpus Latifolius) some of which are well over a hundred years old. The suburb has a unique “village atmosphere” with a beautiful Cape Dutch civic centre and community hall that is for hire for weddings and various other occasions.
Incorporated into the suburb and surrounds and keeping with the natural lifestyle is the 253 hectare Kenneth Stainbank Nature Reserve boasting a population of zebra, bushbuck, reedbuck, impala, and blue red and grey duiker as well as numerous other smaller animals. This reserve is under the capable control Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife. Over and above the 13 kilometres of nature walks there is also a 10 kilometre mountain bike trail regarded as moderately challenging – in other words a good weekend ride that won’t see you exhausted, and Durban’s mountain bikers enjoy this privilege regularly. The reserve even has handicapped trails and with a myriad of bird species and has become a birders haven.
There is an active wildlife centre (CROW) and stables for horses in the suburb, as well as an Athletic club, sports club and numerous other actives including yoga classes.
The shopping centre – always the heart of any community has a good variety of shops including a supermarket, video outlet, chemist, hardware, pizza takeaway and petrol station.
Established during the sixties almost all the homes boast 3 or 4 bedrooms 2 bathrooms and normally a pool. All free hold properties in the suburb are a minimum of 1000sqm. with some ranging up to 3000sqm. Prices range from as little as R800 000 to R2500 000, making this a very affordable solution to a family’s needs.
