Pinetown at a glance

Pinetown is situated less than 17 km from Durban and approximately 60 km from Pietermaritzburg. Freeways provide swift access to the north and south costs with King Shaka International Airport a mere 40 minutes drive along the southern ring road. Pinetown, situated 330m above sea level, enjoys an equable climate with considerably less humidity than is experienced at the coast. The residential areas of Pinetown have lush green gardens and shady trees due to its annual rainfall in the region of 900mm.

SCHOOLS

The largest provincial teachers’ college in KwaZulu Natal – Edgewood College of Education – is situated on a 34 hectare campus on Mariannhill Road. There are six Junior Primary Schools and three High Schools servicing the area. Pinetown also provides special schools such as Browns School and Pinetown Convent. The area is also a popular choice with Afrikaans families because of its proximity to one of the few Afrikaans medium schools in Durban, Gelofte Skool.

SHOPPING CENTRES

Pinetown can satisfy the needs of all its residents, all their shopping can be done within the area. There are three large supermarket complexes situated near Knowles, Checkers and Pick n Pay in the impressive PineCrest Centre. These shopping complexes house other smaller speciality shops, and there is ample parking available for shoppers.

RECREATION

Sport is an important facet of Pinetown’s activities. Cricket, rugby, football, tennis, squash, athletics, bowls, badmington, bowling and hockey are all catered for by all the many various sports clubs within the area. Service Organisations are equally as important such as Pinetown Central Rotary Club, Pinetown Round Table No. 10, Girl Guides and Brownies and Boy Scouts to name but a few.

GENERAL

There are two hospitals in the area, Crompton Hospital and St Marys Hospital in Mariannhill. One of the most encouraging growth factors in Pinetown’s favour has been the growth of large industrial townships. The New Germany Nature Reserve, a small reserve with picnic sites, braai areas, wonderful trails and a hide at a waterhole provides sightings of zebra, nyala, impala, samango monkeys and others as well as a wonderful aviary. In the Pinetown area you could almost eat out at a different restaurant every night, with a large variety of styles to choose from.

PROPERTY

Pinetown is gaining quite a reputation in the property market, particularly among first time buyers, who love the fact that Pinetown nestles at the foot of Field’s Hill (the stretch that forms part of the annual Comrades Marathon) and has quick access to the M13 and other major routes, making it easy to reach Durban & other destinations. Development in the area is booming in both residential and commercial arenas.
