Montclair at a glance

Montclair is a suburb located in the southern part of Durban, approximately 10 minutes drive from the CBD. Formerly part of the Wood farm before it became the present day suburb. It’s easily accessible to both N2 and M4 highways through either the Higginson highway on the south or Clairwood interchange on the northern side. From the northern side Blamey and Benson Roads forms the border. While Kenyon Howden separates it from Woodlands on the Southern side. The two suburbs i.e. Montclair and Woodlands easily feed-off from each other. Most people who live in Montclair work for government as clerks, teachers, prosecutors, police and nurses. There are also those who work for the private sector in Durban and others who work for industries in Prospection and Jacobs.

The residents are now enjoying the recreational facilities like the upgraded public swimming pool supported by sports parks and some sports clubs in the area.  Shopping convenience is made easy through P’nP shopping centre supported by Spar supermarket with a sprinkling of smaller corner cafes in between. A police station, a variety of Doctors and a Post Office completes the picture. Junior to senior primary schooling is serviced by Montclair Primary School while Mowat Park Girls High School aims to provide holistic education for girls. Tatum Keshwar best known for winning Miss South Africa 2008 pageant when she was crowned on 15 December 2008 did her high schooling at Mowat Park. She also has a Psychology Degree from the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal. New Forrest High caters for both boys and girls, is also nearby in Woodlands.

The types of living units that exist in Montclair are duplexes, complexes, flats and houses. In the area there are a number of houses that were built for the railway employees by South African Railways. Prices range from a bachelor pad at R280 000,00 to a duplex at R500 000,00 to a simplex at R600 000,00 and houses starting from R700 000,00.
