HOW MANY TIMES HAVE YOU BOUGHT AND SOLD THROUGH WAKEFIELDS?

Category General News

Wakefields Real Estate has been helping KZN residents to buy and sell property for over 77 years...which means that, for many, Wakefields has been part of their lives
for over half a century. Ask Henry Vivier of Yellowwood Park.

Henry Vivier bought his home in Kingfisher Avenue in Yellowwood Park for R11,100 fifty years ago, and he and his wife, Desiree, have lived in it ever since. He bought it through Wakefields, and he still has that familiar yellow branded Wakefields sale agreement. He laughs when he remembers signing on the dotted line: “We’d been married for 10 years by then, and we’d always lived in flats. When our first daughter came along, we moved to a ground floor flat...but my wife wanted a house in which to raise our family. She and a girlfriend would spend the week looking around at properties – they both liked the Yellowwood Park area – and then, on the weekend, when I was off work, she’d show me a few that she liked. She really liked this one...so this was the one we bought of course!” That was 50 years ago.

This month, the couple have been married 60 years. It’s time for the house to belong to another family. Three daughters have been raised there, and the grandchildren have spent many hours in their grandparent’s home. Henry phoned Peter Lomax, Director of Wakefields’ Yellowwood Park branch, and after getting a professional valuation on the house, Henry put it on the market: “Peter told me what he believed I would get for my house, and I was happy with his opinion. He was absolutely right. In less than a week, Peter called me to say he had a signed offer at that price. The deal was done.” Henry was very happy with how it’s turned out. Well, happy about everything except having to pack up the house: “Have you any idea how much you accumulate in 50 years?” he said. “And Desiree was a bit of a hoarder,” he smiled. “Then again, I haven’t started on my garage...”
